"I learned that going viral is unsustainable for the soul and welcomed the end of it."

You carried this moment with such humility and grace Leslie. This behind the scenes look was as moving as the highlight reel.

This virality is well-deserved. :') Congratulations! And thank you for sharing your perspective on what it's like to hear from the world, all-at-once.

I wish for you that you get as much of the benefit and as little of the hassle as possible as comes with being in the spotlight. You deserve it. Best Regards to you.

Thank you for sharing your wonderfully human story about your marriage and the experience of going viral. It warms the heart and touches the soul. To have connected with millions of people with your story -- it makes our beautiful world seem big & small at the same time

“I saw that nearly every person wants nothing more than to be seen for who they are — no more, no less. I saw the hope and longing in those who were searching for their people. I saw the bravery of those who struggle.” -- this is so beautiful and thoughtful, Leslie. You’re proof, before my eyes, that opening up and showing your true self with all its colors, bright and soft, is the most precious gift you can give the world and yourself. Thank you for sharing.

I really enjoyed your initial viral story, and from your post above you said: "For years, I've wondered if there was a genuine way I could share more about the significance of our being together." I think this is why it resonated with me. My partner and I have been together for 25 years and I sometimes wish I could encapsulate in writing both the sacredness AND the mundane of it in a way that truly speaks to the relationship. I think you did that.

The viral thing is very interesting. In many ways, your experience outlines why I still don't share my writing with the world. What a lovely and horrible thing to have happen - a meaningful essay not only be seen by a million eyes, but commented on! I appreciate your comment about "the cost of silence" and it really resonates. There's a cost to speaking up, but it is usually rewarded by a personal liberation that is difficult to put into words. Glad to have met you, Leslie.

This reflection is as beautiful and revealing as the original post, Leslie.

And it makes us think back to whether we really do want to be viral. Or what we are willing to be viral for.
